Grade 2 listed cast Iron Railing Restoration works at Margate Promenade Seafront
Roll-tech carried out challenging restoration works to shot blast and paint 420 linear meters of Grade II listed, ornate Victorian cast iron railings at Margate seafront.
The works were challenging due to the very close proximity of the sea and the ever changing weather conditions. The works consisted of firstly shot blasting back and the removal of all the paints to reveal the original cast metal then we had to jet wash down to remove all the salt contamination before carrying out the second blast. Once the second blast was completed the paint inspectors, who were overseeing the quality control, would take salt test readings and on completion of this the race was on to apply the first undercoat layer, before any oxidizing occurred.
Finally, each of the 6 coats of paint were applied before each coat was applied a further jet wash was carried out and salt tested.
